Baking Powder Substitute for Dogs: What to Use When Youre Out
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alright, listen up, y’all! We’re gonna talk about this bakin’ powder stuff for dogs, you know, for them treats and such. I ain’t no fancy baker, mind you, but I know a thing or two about feedin’ critters, dogs included.

Now, they say bakin’ powder ain’t the best thing for dogs. Too much of it, and it’ll mess up their bellies somethin’ fierce. Vomitin’ and the runs, nobody wants that for their furry friend, right? So, we gotta find somethin’ else, somethin’ that’ll make them treats rise up nice and fluffy without makin’ ’em sick.

So, what can we use instead? Well, there’s a few things. First off, there’s bakin’ soda. But you can’t just use it by itself, see? You gotta have somethin’ sour to go with it. Like, lemon juice or that cream of tartar stuff.

  • Bakin’ Soda and Cream of Tartar: If you got some cream of tartar lyin’ around, you can mix it with bakin’ soda. Folks say you need two teaspoons of cream of tartar for every one teaspoon of bakin’ soda. That’s what I heard, anyway.
  • Bakin’ Soda and Lemon Juice: No cream of tartar? No problem! Grab a lemon. You’ll need about a teaspoon and a half of lemon juice for every three-quarters of a teaspoon of bakin’ soda. Give or take, you know? It ain’t rocket science.
  • Bakin’ Soda and Vinegar: Heard tell you can use vinegar too. The white kind, you know, the plain stuff. Just use it like you would lemon juice, with the bakin’ soda. Same idea.

Now, some folks, they just skip the bakin’ powder altogether. They use applesauce or mashed bananas in them dog treats. Makes ’em sweet and moist, I reckon. And that way your dog won’t get an upset stomach.

And don’t forget the flour! You gotta have flour, right? Plain flour, wheat flour, whatever you got. If your dog’s got a sensitive tummy, you might try rice flour or that sorghum stuff. I used to feed my old hound dog sorghum. He loved that. He wasn’t picky though.

But listen, the main thing is, you don’t want to overdo it with any of this stuff. A little bit goes a long way. You ain’t bakin’ a cake for the county fair, you’re just makin’ some treats for your dog. Keep it simple, keep it safe.

And one more thing, always talk to your vet if you ain’t sure about somethin’. They know more about this stuff than I do. I’m just tellin’ you what I heard and what I seen work. Dogs are like people, some can handle certain things, some can’t. You gotta know your dog.

So there you have it. No need for bakin’ powder when you’re makin’ treats for your four-legged friend. Just use a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and you’ll be golden. Your dog will be happy, and that’s all that matters, right?

Now go on, get to bakin’ them treats! And don’t forget to give your dog a good belly rub from me.
