Alright, let’s talk about this King Arthur all-purpose organic flour. You know, the stuff they use for makin’ bread and cakes and all that fancy stuff. I ain’t no fancy baker, mind you, but I do know a thing or two about flour. Been usin’ it my whole life, though back then, we didn’t have all this “organic” this and that. It was just flour, plain and simple.

Now, they say this King Arthur flour is good for everything. Bread, pastries, cakes, even pancakes, they say. Well, I reckon that’s somethin’. Back in my day, we had different flours for different things. But I guess these young folks like things easy. One bag for everything, huh? Sounds convenient, I’ll give ‘em that.
- They say it’s “organic.” What does that even mean?
- I hear it means they don’t use all them chemicals and bug sprays on the wheat.
- Well, that sounds like a good thing, I guess. Don’t want no chemicals in my bread, that’s for sure.
I looked at the bag, and it says somethin’ about protein. Says this flour has a certain amount, and the bread flour has more. Now, I ain’t no scientist, but I figure more protein means stronger bread, right? Like them fancy loaves you see in the store with all the holes in ‘em. This flour, they say, is good for everyday stuff. Your regular ol’ biscuits and muffins and such. And that’s just fine by me.
They also talk about how they make the flour. Somethin’ about milling and how it makes the flour good for bakin’. I don’t know much about that, but I do know good flour when I see it. And this King Arthur stuff, it looks alright. Nice and white, not too clumpy. That’s important, you know. You don’t want no lumpy flour in your biscuits. They’ll turn out hard as rocks.
I tried makin’ a cake with it the other day. Just a simple vanilla cake, nothin’ fancy. And you know what? It turned out pretty good. Nice and moist, not too dry. The kids liked it, and that’s what matters most. I guess this flour is as good as they say it is. Good for everything, huh? Maybe they’re not just blowin’ smoke after all.
They say you gotta mix it with water, warm water, they say. And you gotta measure it out just right. Cups and grams and all that. Back in my day, we just eyeballed it. A pinch of this, a handful of that. But I guess these young folks like to be precise. Can’t blame ‘em, I suppose. Baking is a science, they say. And maybe it is. But it’s also about feelin’ it, you know? Knowin’ when the dough is just right, knowin’ when it’s ready to go in the oven. That’s somethin’ they don’t teach you in no fancy cookbook.

So, would I recommend this King Arthur flour? Well, I reckon I would. It seems to work just fine. Makes a good cake, makes a good biscuit. And if it’s really organic, like they say, then that’s even better. Less chemicals, healthier food. That’s what we all want, right? At least, that’s what this old lady wants. So go ahead and give it a try. You might just like it. And if you don’t, well, you can always go back to the regular stuff. But I think you’ll find this King Arthur flour is pretty darn good.
They say it is milled to be versatile, for all yer bakin’ needs. Well now I used to just use what we had for whatever I was makin’. Never gave it a second thought. But these days, folks like things easy, they like things to have a purpose written right on the bag. So, if this flour does it all, then that’s just fine and dandy. Saves a body havin’ to go buy a whole bunch of different bags, don’t it?
Now, I’ve heard some folks say that organic flour is better. Tastes better, bakes better. I don’t know about all that. But I do know that this flour makes a good loaf of bread. And a good cake. And that’s all that matters to me. It doesn’t have all them pesticides and such, which I suppose is a good thing. Don’t want to be eatin’ no bugs with my bread, that’s for sure.
