Okay, so yesterday I decided to get a little crafty in the kitchen. I’ve been seeing these adorable mini cakes all over my Instagram feed, and I thought, “I can totally do that!” Spoiler alert: it was a bit more challenging than I anticipated, but still super fun.
The Great Mold Hunt
First things first, I needed molds. I didn’t want anything fancy, just some basic shapes. So, I hit up my local craft store. I rummaged through the baking aisle and found a bunch of options. I ended up grabbing three different ones:

- A classic round mold.
- A cute little heart-shaped one.
- And a square mold, just to mix things up.
Batter Up!
Next, I prepared my cake batter. I used a simple vanilla cake recipe I found, nothing too complicated. I whisked together the dry ingredients, then creamed the butter and sugar, and finally combined everything. Easy peasy, right?
The Filling Frenzy
Now for the fun part – getting the batter into those tiny molds! This is where things got a little messy. I tried using a spoon at first, but that was a disaster. Batter everywhere! Then, I remembered I had a piping bag tucked away in a drawer. That was a game-changer! It made filling the molds so much easier and cleaner. I still made a little bit of a mess, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
Baking Time!
I carefully placed the filled molds onto a baking sheet and popped them into the preheated oven. The recipe said to bake for about 15-20 minutes, but I kept a close eye on them because these were mini cakes, and I didn’t want them to burn. I checked them with a toothpick after about 12 minutes, and they were perfect!
Cooling and Decorating
I took the cakes out of the oven and let them cool in the molds for a few minutes before flipping them out onto a wire rack. They looked so cute! Once they were completely cool, I whipped up some simple buttercream frosting and decorated each cake with a swirl and some * who doesn’t love sprinkles?
All in all, it was a successful baking adventure. It took an afternoon to do * though it was a bit messier than I expected, the mini cakes turned out adorable, and they tasted pretty darn good too! I’ll definitely be trying this again, maybe with different flavors and decorations next time.
